A look into Goethe's life

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born on August 28, 1749 in Frankfurt am Main and died on March 22, 1832 in Weimar. His life was marked by literary and scientific acquisitions as well as his role as a statesman and theater director. Goethe became known through works such as “Faust”, “Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship” and “Hermann and Dorothea”, which made him a central figure of Weimar Classicism. With a significant influence on literary, political and philosophical thought in the West, he left a lasting mark on the opinions and ideas of his time, from the Sturm und Drang movement to the Romantic movement in Europe.

Goethe grew up in a wealthy family, wrote his first play in 1770 and gained worldwide attention with “The Sorrows of Young Werther”. In 1775 he moved to Weimar, where he was appointed to various positions, including managing director of the Weimar Theater, which he helped to shape and in whose success he played a major role. His travels, particularly a significant one to Italy between 1786 and 1788, shaped his artistic development and his perspective on the world.
