Climate conference in Brazil: The future of heating in focus!

The 30th UN Climate Change Conference will take place in Brazil today, November 10, 2025, an event that will captivate not only state leaders, but also environmental activists and climate researchers. The focus of the conference is on the topic of climate-neutral heating, with geothermal energy being discussed as a promising option. Given the challenges in climate protection, progress in the just transition away from fossil fuels and climate financing is essential, as participants from all over the world emphasize. This conference will be crucial for how political actors will implement their financial and climate policy goals, especially with regard to the requirements of the Paris Climate Agreement, which depends on current national climate contributions (NDCs). Only NDCs that were submitted in time could be included in the relevant UN synthesis report, which forms the basis for the negotiations at COP30. However, only a few countries had met the February 2023 deadline, further complicating the situation

.

At the same time as the conference, tensions are high in Brandenburg, especially between the SPD and the BSW, who are arguing about state media treaties. The BSW parliamentary group is not willing to agree to the 15-page state media treaty. This political event causes excitement and galvanizes citizens' opinions. Meanwhile, Rolls Royce is planning to expand its factory in the region, which could boost the local job market.

But the public is not occupied with everyday discussions. In Brandenburg an der Havel, the reactions to the upcoming mayoral election are loud. There is also news in the Teltow-Fläming district: residents favor yellow bins instead of the traditional yellow bags for waste disposal. The changeover was planned for January 1st and preparations are in full swing.

Away from the political stage, there is also good news: Ilse Wessili from Senftenberg is celebrating her 100th birthday. Another highlight is the commemoration of Olympic champion Hermann Weingärtner, which creates proud moments in the region. And while the number of students in Brandenburg is making a name for itself, cycle-based training is also becoming more relevant for women in competitive sports, as a new study that deals with performance optimization shows.

A look at Brazil

As Brazil prepares for the challenges of the climate conference, another focus is on renewable energies. The slow expansion of these energy capacities shows that there is currently a lack of political will to move away from fossil fuels. At the conference, Brazil launched the Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF) to create economic incentives for the protection of tropical forests. At $125 billion, this fund could be crucial to supporting underfunded forest conservation.

In summary, it is clear that there is a lot going on both locally in Brandenburg and globally at the climate conference. Having a good hand will be crucial to tackling the challenges and setting the course for a more sustainable future.
