Truck fire on A9: driver injured, millions in damages and traffic jam!
A spectacular incident occurred on the A9 motorway today, October 9, 2025, which not only affected the flow of traffic but also raised some questions about vehicle safety. According to the Saxony-Anhalt Police A truck carrying a load of copper cable rolls between the Weißenfels and PWC Pörstental junctions was set on fire while driving. The 58-year-old driver was able to park his tractor on the hard shoulder in time and fortunately escaped with minor injuries.
The fire was blazing fiercely and the fire department was quickly called to extinguish the fire. Unfortunately, the tractor-trailer burned out completely, resulting in total damage of around 150,000 euros. In addition to the economic losses, there was also noticeable damage to the road, which further exacerbated the situation. In order to carry out the extinguishing work and rescue work, the A9 in the direction of Berlin was temporarily completely closed. It wasn't until around 8 a.m. that the middle and left lanes were reopened to traffic.
Traffic chaos on the highway
This incident does not come as a surprise considering that the risk of fire in vehicles, especially in the commercial vehicle sector, is a constant source of debate. A survey by DEVK, published by Statista, shows that the risk of being involved in a fire is perceived differently depending on the type of drive. It is an issue that affects both road safety and public perception.
Another unfortunate incident occurred on September 9, 2025 near Nuremberg, when a truck carrying dangerous cargo, which included spray cans and batteries, caught fire. There, too, the fire brigade fought with foam to put out the fire, while the roads towards Munich had to be closed. Such incidents often lead to significant traffic chaos in the region, especially in connection with previous traffic jams caused by block clearances at the Austrian border.
Safety is the top priority
It is obvious that road safety depends not only on vehicle drivers, but also on the quality of the goods transported. Situations like these show how important it is that everyone involved - from drivers to waste disposal companies - has a good hand in choosing safe transport methods. We must continue to be vigilant and ensure that dangerous situations like today remain the exception.
