Afghans return to Germany with government approval – hope for many!

The situation for Afghan citizens waiting to travel to Germany remains tense. Today, onNovember 11, 2025, reports the World that another flight took place from Islamabad to Germany, carrying eleven Afghan citizens. This initiative follows the federal government's commitment and marks the fifth flight since the change of government in Berlin.

There are many people waiting in Pakistan. Around1900 Afghansfollow developments with official admission commitments. These people are often former local workers or people who are being persecuted because of their commitment to democracy in Afghanistan. In the last few weeks, around 80 Afghans have received entry permits based on court decisions. Nevertheless, the admission program was stopped under the new CDU-led federal government in May, putting many of those waiting in an uncertain situation.

Background of the interruption

In the past, the program included not only former local Bundeswehr employees, but also Afghans at risk. The daily news reports that the new coalition agreements between the CDU, CSU and SPD provide for these voluntary admission programs to be largely discontinued. Instead, the federal government offered some Afghans financial incentives to forego entry. This led to a certain level of resentment among those affected, who wrote a letter to Chancellor Friedrich Merz to write to the government.

Nevertheless, there are bright spots: Afghans currently flown include:220 former local employees,60 people on a “human rights list”,600 from the bridging programand about1,000 from the federal admission program for Afghanistan. The “Kabul Airlift” organization provides support and fights for the rights of those affected to ensure that they are not forgotten.

Judicial measures and challenges

Despite the restrictive measures and the changing political landscape, many Afghans have come a long way. Recently traveled14 Afghanswith a confirmation of admission to Germany. This happened after a court-enforced entry, which shows that there is hope even in hopeless situations. These arrivals had successfully completed all the necessary procedures and are therefore a sign of the possibility that other Afghans can also realize their dream of security and a new beginning in Germany.

However, the situation remains precarious. The ongoing deportations from Pakistan and the strict actions of the German government are causing many to live in fear. It remains to be seen what further steps the government will take to allow the remaining Afghans to enter the country and live up to its promises.
