111 years Clärchens Ballhaus: A Berlin dance dream comes to life!

Auguststraße, 10117 Berlin, Deutschland - Clärchens Ballhaus in Berlin is not just a dance restaurant, but a living piece of history that has existed since 1913. This remarkable building has survived both the First World War and countless crises, the wall construction and case as well as the hype around Berlin -Mitte. The charming and unanimized facade in Auguststrasse not only attracts dance enthusiasts, but is now also a cultural landmark of the city. As n-tv , Marion Kiesow published a book in Clärchens Ballhaus ", the moving history of this ballhouse illuminated.

In her work, Kiesow takes a look at the various owners and operators of the ball house, starting with Clara, who headed the house from 1928 to 1967. During this time, she showed remarkable invention in times of crisis. Especially during the Second World War, special events such as widow balls were organized to counteract the lack of male dance partners. Even after the war, the ball house became a cultural meeting place, where both the new and the old traditions found their place.

a place for everyone

The ball house was always a place for simple people and offered a variety of dance styles and drinks. Daughter Elfriede Wolff took over the management from 1969 to 1989 and continued the tradition. Especially in the GDR, the ball house had to deal with difficulties, since private restaurants were disadvantaged in the allocation of goods. In the years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the ensemble experienced popularity, but it was not a sure -fire success. It was not until 2005 with new operators and a fresh concept Clärchens Ballhaus was able to bloom again, and to this day it is attracted to people of all ages.

So many stories and emotions are interwoven in Clärchens Ballhaus that Kiesow's book not only contains historical facts, but also personal voices of contemporary witnesses. Visitors can be kidnapped back into the past on around 432 pages with 660 illustrations. Bebra Verlag announced that the book is available for 49 euros.

a cultural experience

The ball house welcomed prominent guests such as Brad Pitt, Loriot and Quentin Tarantino, which underlines his status as a cultural landmark of Berlin. This famous house has a unique atmosphere that is rooted in the historical framework of the Berlin Ballhäuser of the 1920s. Tip Berlin emphasizes that Clärchens Ballhaus was founded in 1920 as "Bühlers Tanzhaus" and today serves as a place for dance courses, various events and solemn occasions.

The “Luna d’Oro” restaurant is operated in the lower area, while dance courses and events continue to take place in the mirror hall. After a short closure for the renovation, the ball house should open its doors again in 2024 and delight the Cologne and the international guests. The preservation of this unique place is thanks to Yoram Roth, who took over the investments to revive the house in 2018.

In a city that is constantly changing, Clärchens Ballhaus remains a firm anchor point for everyone who wants to feel the soul of Berlin. Marion Kiesow's book is an absolute must for all those interested in culture and not only offers a historical overview, but also fascinating insights into life and the traditions of a distinctive ball house.
