Admission to top museums in the Humboldt Forum: What you need to know!

From October 3, 2025, the cultural offerings in the Humboldt Forum in Berlin will change significantly. After three years without admission, visitors are now being asked to pay for access to several renowned museums and exhibitions. This is a step that has become necessary to finance increasing operating costs and the expansion of programs, such as rbb24 reported.

The Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art are among the main attractions that will be chargeable under this new regulation. The price for a day ticket is 14 euros, reduced 7 euros. A two-day ticket is available for 18 euros; reduced price is 9 euros. The regulations are particularly friendly for young visitors, as children and young people up to the age of 19 continue to have free entry.

Attractive ticket offers and exhibitions

Tickets are valid for a wide range of exhibitions, including:

  • Ethnologisches Museum
  • Museum für Asiatische Kunst
  • Stadtausstellung “Berlin Global”
  • Ausstellung “Beziehungsweise Familie”
  • Museum Knoblauchhaus im Nikolaiviertel

A visit to the roof terrace of the Humboldt Forum is also subject to a fee and costs 3 euros (reduced 1.50 euros). To make the visit even more attractive, group tickets and cheaper individual tickets are offered for the “Berlin Global” exhibition. Some areas, such as the Humboldt Laboratory and the Sculpture Hall, remain accessible free of charge.

Public financing under criticism

The switch to an admission price policy is not just a question of visitor motivation. According to those responsible, public funding is no longer sufficient to maintain operations and implement new programs. The intended entry is intended to help secure and further expand the diverse offering.

The museums in the Humboldt Forum are part of the rebuilt city palace and have attracted numerous visitors in the past. Its temporary free accessibility had attracted many to explore the cultural treasures in the German capital. Now the challenge will be to continue to motivate visitors, despite the changes.

The changes to admission prices could also be seen as a sign that culture and social participation are not entirely free. At a time when costs are rising everywhere, the cultural scene also has to adapt.
