A tragic incident is causing a stir in Berlin. A 25-year-old is the focus of the investigation because she is accused of taking the life of her newborn daughter shortly after birth. The Berlin public prosecutor's office is bringing charges of manslaughter against the young mother. She stated that both the child's mother and father decided against the birth because they feared that having a child would negatively impact their lifestyle. This reports Berlin Sunday paper.
The investigation and arrest
As part of the investigation, the child's father was identified through DNA tests. His apartment was searched. The mother turned herself in to the homicide squad of the State Criminal Police Office on May 23, 2025, accompanied by her lawyer. She was provisionally arrested on the same day and has been in custody since May 24th.
The accusation is that the accused suffocated her child after birth. This is assessed by the public prosecutor's office as a deliberate act, which was brought to trial in the Berlin I Regional Court rbb24 reported.

The issue of infanticide remains a serious problem in Germany, even though the numbers have fallen sharply over the last 30 years.
