Police alarm in Berlin: A100 and A113 closed for a short time!
Today, October 9, 2025, there were some unpleasant surprises for drivers in Berlin. Due to an extensive police operation, the A100 and A113 motorways were temporarily completely closed. The original closure was announced from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but surprisingly the route was reopened after about 45 minutes. This reports daily news.
The reason for the sudden full closure was a targeted search that was related to larger investigations. Sniffer dogs were also used on the closed section. These measures were necessary to investigate possible connections with a major power outage in Berlin-Köpenick in mid-September. According to the authorities, this incident could indicate a targeted intervention in the energy infrastructure, with left-wing extremist perpetrators suspected. The investigators secure evidence and document any damage to cables. Sniffer dogs, including Mantrailer dogs, were used in the course of this investigation. However, police remained vague about confirming their use. Daily Mirror reports that the reopening of the streets was announced via platform
Power outage and safety concerns
The background to the operation turns out to be significant. In mid-September, the largest power outage of the post-war period occurred in Berlin due to an arson attack on two electricity pylons, affecting around 50,000 households. The electrical outage lasted about 60 hours and investigators suspect it was linked to an increasing threat to critical infrastructure from organized crime and extremist groups. According to Interior Senator Iris Spranger (SPD), a letter of confession published on the Internet was classified as authentic.
In light of current events and significant security concerns, the need to better protect critical infrastructure in Germany is becoming increasingly obvious. Experts suggest introducing binding protection standards for critical infrastructure and increasingly addressing cyber attacks. Neither the authorities nor political decision-makers seem to be ignoring the sensitivity of the issue, especially after the recent power outages in Spain and Portugal. DW highlights that many German authorities are repeatedly the target of hacker attacks. In addition to the desired increase in funding for the protection of critical infrastructure, there is also the creation of a better organized cybersecurity structure.
Outlook for future measures
It is not only time to take immediate action, but also to develop long-term strategies. The incoming German government's planned investments in infrastructure, estimated at 500 billion euros over the next 12 years, should also lead to improved protection against threats in the areas of energy, water and communication networks. The population has a right to security, especially considering recent incidents and recognizing that we are moving into a time where hybrid threats are becoming commonplace.
Meanwhile, drivers in Berlin are urged to be careful and avoid the affected areas. Further closures on the A100 will be announced in the coming days. Among other things, a closure between Kurfürstendamm and Spandauer Damm in the direction of Wedding is planned for Thursday evening from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday morning, followed by a renovation of the A100 at the weekend.
