Suspicion of terrorism in Berlin: 22-year-old arrested for plotting an attack!
In Berlin, on November 2, 2025, the police arrested a 22-year-old man who is suspected of having prepared a serious crime that would endanger the state. Loud daily news The accused is a Syrian citizen who has lived in Germany since 2023. The authorities received tips from a foreign intelligence service, which ultimately led to the investigation.
The arrest took place after a short observation and was carried out as a party-led measure to avert danger. According to preliminary reports, the man has several registered addresses in Berlin. During searches of his living quarters, investigators discovered small amounts of chemicals that could be used to construct an explosive device. While there was no finished bomb, worrying plans were found that may include a knife attack.
Suspicion of Islamist motivation
The public prosecutor's office assumes that the man is a sympathizer of the terrorist organization “Islamic State”. The next steps in the investigation include a review of his online activity, which may provide further insight into his motives. An arrest warrant has already been issued and Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt expressed concern about the high terrorist threat in Germany. Dobrindt emphasized that the threat situation is currently worrying, but that the arrestee's activities were recognized in good time.
At the same time as this incident, another suspect was also arrested. On February 20, 2025, police arrested an 18-year-old Russian citizen in Berlin who was suspected of planning a politically motivated attack. This man is part of a three-member group planning to carry out an Islamist-motivated terrorist attack. The investigators also received clues about the plans from foreign secret services, such as Mercury reported.
During a search in Potsdam, an object suspected of being explosive was also found and had to be defused. The suspects were apparently planning an attack on the Israeli embassy in Berlin. While investigators assume that the planning was not yet very advanced, the security authorities are alarmed.
A worrying trend
These arrests are part of a larger trend in Germany involving the growing threat of Islamist-motivated attacks. The ongoing investigation highlights the need for close cooperation between authorities at different levels. Developments in the area of cybersecurity and digital surveillance, which are playing an increasing role in the context of security, could also play a decisive role here.
In industry, as described in Theresa Houck's article on trends in industrial automation, the topic of digitalization and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is becoming more and more anchored. As companies prepare to integrate these technologies, it remains essential to keep security in mind to effectively address such threats. The future-oriented approach in industry could also ensure greater security elsewhere - against both physical and digital threats. For more on this, see Houck's article on the industrial automation.
