Brandenburg in the upswing: economy blooms, crime sinks!

Brandenburg is the focus of various social aspects that show both positive and challenging developments. According to the R+V study "The Fears of German 2024", Brandenburg is considered the most fearful state of Germany, with the main fear of the population, above all, the consequences of immigration, inflation and deep distrust of politicians. Despite these fears, the current statistical data show a positive turn in crime and a flourishing economy.

The police crime statistics (PKS) 2024 recorded a decline in registered crimes by 5% compared to the previous year. The overall crime is therefore at the lowest level since reunification. In particular, thefts, fraud crime and violent crime are declining. Interior Minister Katrin Lange (SPD) presented the statistical results, which show a 58% reconnaissance rate, the highest value in 18 years. However, there are also worrying developments: The number of attacks on police officers has achieved a new high with 1492 incidents.

declining crime with simultaneous increase in immigrant crime

The number of non -German suspects have increased according to PKS, which is particularly in the context of immigration. Over 50% of registered bodily harm are due to non -German suspects. In 2024, 16,987 cases of assault were reported, an increase of 2.3% compared to the previous year. Many immigrants were also involved in the knife attacks, which made 793 cases.

In contrast, violent crime has decreased slightly overall. Nevertheless, the police union is concerned about the increasing violence against police officers and rescue workers, such as 72 attacks on firefighters and rescue workers, an increase of 50% compared to 2023.

economic growth and voluntary commitment

From an economic point of view, Brandenburg is flourishing, with a positive forecast for the future: Alexander Schirp, general manager of the Berlin-Brandenburg company (UVB), estimates that around 40,000 new jobs will be created by 2030. Immigration is considered necessary to cover the high need for workers in the region. 24,000 jobs are currently vacant. This could support the positive trend in the life satisfaction of the Brandenburg support, since 85% of those surveyed state to be satisfied or very satisfied with their lives.

The voluntary commitment, which has increased by 35% in the past 25 years, has also been particularly gratifying. Over 800,000 people are involved in Brandenburg, with each third citizen aged 14 and over in an association or an initiative. 11.5% of the volunteers are active in sports and movement.

In summary, it can be said that Brandenburg has experienced remarkable growth in business and civil society despite the existing fears and challenges in the areas of crime and immigration.
