Blue light meeting Barnim 2025: Rescue workers inspire families!
On September 27, 2025, the 2nd Blue Light Meeting Barnim took place on the grounds of the Aviation Museum in Finowfurt - a real spectacle for the whole family. The volunteer fire departments, aid organizations, police, rescue services and even the Bundeswehr were on site to give visitors an insight into their exciting work. How Barnim Current reported that the organizers - the Florian Finowfurt fire brigade support association in collaboration with the Barnim district and numerous volunteers - had developed a program that even exceeded the highlights of the previous year.
The day started at 10:30 a.m. with a diverse range of activities and performances. The participating organizations, including the Barnim district fire department, the Johanniter Accident Aid, the German Red Cross (DRK) and the Technical Relief Organization (THW), presented their vehicles, which ranged from modern rescue and fire engines to historic American police cars and air rescue helicopters. The visitor magnet was, among other things, the “Strongest Rescuer” competition - a part of the program in which the movement and speed of the emergency services was displayed.
Competitions and honors
In an exciting competition, the volunteers not only demonstrated their skills in the wet firefighting attack. The Eichhorst fire brigade secured second place, followed by the Schorfheid women, who took seventh place, and the Lichterfeld fire brigade, who received ninth place. A highlight was the honoring of Sanna Kannewurf from Eichhorst, who was named “strongest rescuer”. This made it clear how important such commitment is and how well the regional fire brigade teams harmonize in teamwork.
Brandenburg's Interior Minister René Wilke was particularly in the spotlight, not only being impressed by the high level of volunteerism, but also assuring that funding for such events can be secured in the future. “I think we can do this,” he said, encouraging those present to continue to work to keep citizens safe.
Volunteering and social responsibility
On the occasion of this event, the importance of volunteering is also highlighted to the wider public. A study by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief shows that around 1.76 million volunteers aged 18 and over work in civil defense and disaster relief in Germany. However, only a little more than a third of operational organizations reported having sufficient members to meet current requirements. There is still a need for optimization, especially given the increasing demands caused by climate change BBK highlights.
These challenges require volunteering to be opened up to underrepresented groups and a better balance between volunteering and work. Planned support from government funding could make a significant contribution to providing the organizations with the necessary resources.
In summary, it can be said that the 2nd Blue Light Meeting in Barnim is not only a sign of solidarity and commitment in the region, but also offers a platform to celebrate the value of volunteers in our everyday lives. For the organizers and participants it was a family reunion that combined the training character with a touch of fun and action. A big thank you to everyone involved!
Like on the Aviation Museum website to read numerous regional fire departments and organizations were present. The entire event is an excellent opportunity to make the services in the field of fire and disaster protection tangible and tangible.
