Bat spectacle: Experience the Long Nature Watch Night in Barnim!
Next weekend, specifically on August 15th and 16th, the Barnim Nature Park will be transformed into a nighttime adventure again. The Long Nature Watch Night is on the program, during which rangers introduce the fascinating world of nocturnal animals, especially bats. This unique event begins at dusk and offers participants the opportunity to experience the secrets of the nocturnal wildlife up close in an impressive setting. But what exactly can visitors expect?
The first event in this year's series took place last Saturday and was a complete success. Over 20 interested participants gathered at the nature park train station in Melchow. Equipped with special bat detectors, they were able to hear the sounds of the little fluttering bats and experience how the water bats performed a cheerful ultrasound concert in the dark. The rangers led the group on a one and a half hour tour that took them past an old cemetery back to the beautiful carp ponds. During the walk there was a lot of exciting information about the region and nature provided by the experienced rangers. All ranger tours are free of charge and offer a wonderful introduction for nature enthusiasts.
Experience bats up close
A special highlight of the events is the planned catching campaign led by bat expert Bea Koch. Here the participants can become active themselves! Nets are set up to catch the nimble fliers and identify their species up close to their skin or fur. This is not only educational, but also guaranteed to be a lot of fun. However, visitors should be well prepared when taking part: flashlights and sturdy shoes are strongly recommended to ensure that the experience is a success. There is also the opportunity to photograph the captured specimens with a camera and thus capture memories.
The Brandenburg Nature Watch has been an integral part of the natural landscape since 1991 and offers over 420 guided tours every year. Around 7,500 participants enjoy these excursions. The organization not only advocates for nature conservation, but also promotes nature tourism in the region. Information about other ranger tours can be found on the Naturwacht website, which also offers educational opportunities for young nature lovers. Support comes from around 350 volunteers who are actively involved in various projects and activities.
So anyone who is interested in animals, nature and exciting journeys of discovery should not miss the Long Nature Watch Night. Enthusiasts can obtain comprehensive information about upcoming events via the Naturwacht website barnim-aktuell.de and visithavelland.de. Here, all participants are offered the opportunity to experience the night, the animals and nature with all their senses - a perfect opportunity to discover the beauty of the local wildlife!
