Masked perpetrators rob a gas station: Police are asking for information!
In the last few days, the criminal police at the Barnim Inspectorate have investigated several incidents that are causing excitement in the region. The focus is particularly on a robbery at a gas station in Finowfurt that took place at the end of March. Two masked perpetrators demanded cash and stole several packs of e-cigarettes. As they fled, they got into a physical altercation with a witness who had given chase. Unfortunately, the perpetrators were able to escape undetected and investigators are relying on information from the public to identify the people pictured. These can be transmitted by telephone on 03338 3610 or via the internet station of the Brandenburg police. How Barnim currently reports, the investigators also have pictures of the perpetrators, although their identities are still unknown.
In another report, the police reported an attempted break-in into a single-family home in Birkholzaue. Perpetrators attempted to gain entry, but aborted their attempt when they noticed that there were people in the house. This escape resulted in property damage of around 1,000 euros. Such incidents shed light on the general crime situation in the region and contribute to concerns among citizens.
The current crime situation
The general development of crime in Germany is an exciting, albeit worrying, topic to observe. According to the Police Crime Statistics (PKS) from the Federal Criminal Police Office, there was a decrease of 1.7% to around 5.84 million crimes in 2024. This is primarily attributed to the partial legalization of cannabis since April 2024, which reduced the number of corresponding offenses. However, an increase in crimes affecting people's sense of security remains a serious problem. Thefts and property crimes, such as, are particularly common Statista emphasized.
An interesting observation is the development of the clearance rate, which was 58% in 2024, which represents a slight decrease compared to the previous year. Despite a 3% decrease in suspects to around 2.18 million, there was an increase in non-German suspects to 41.8%. This shows that the problem of crime in the region is complex and multi-faceted.
