New warning tag system in Bernau: 10 sirens ensure safety!

A lot is happening in Bernau: the city is significantly upgrading its warning system. Ten new sirens have already been installed today and a final test alarm is imminent. On Friday June 27th at 12:30 p.m. this alarm will be heard for 12 seconds. “The new sirens have a different sound than the previous models,” says Kersten Haas from the company Sonnenburg Elektronic AG, which took over the installation. The reason for the new purchases is obvious: the old sirens are no longer sufficient to reach the population effectively due to the soundproof windows.

From now on, a test alarm will be carried out throughout Bernau every first Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. This is not only a new regulation, but also an important signal for residents. The city plans to provide a total of 19 siren locations, with nine more sirens scheduled to be installed in the near future. These measures serve to improve comprehensive information for the population and to provide additional warning means. You can find out more about this at Barnim Aktuell.

Storm damage and fire brigade on duty

Another point that is currently bothering people in Bern is the damage caused by a storm on Monday. With wind speeds of over 100 km/h, the Bernau fire department had already been involved in 32 missions by the afternoon. Around 60 firefighters were on duty to clear falling branches and fallen trees. Fortunately, no one was injured, although two vehicles were hit by falling branches while driving. The clean-up work continues and the streets are reopened to traffic.

The new sirens in Schönow, which were also tested, show that the city is now investing more in population and disaster protection. “We are doing everything we can to optimize our warning system,” explains the city administration. A total of 19 modern sirens were installed here to ensure the functionality of the warning system. Regular checks are planned to ensure that all systems are safe and reliable. This follows the resolution of the Bernau city council to modernize the warning system in 2021. For more information about the current developments in Bernau, check out Bernau Live.

A look beyond the city limits shows that innovative solutions in population security are also being implemented in Siegen. There, the fire department has the planning and conception of warnings and information for the population firmly under control. With a siren warning system consisting of 50 sirens, the population in the city can be informed quickly and effectively. The sirens are checked for functionality several times a year. Interested citizens also receive information via the “NINA” warning app and the fire department’s social media.
