Suspect wanted for theft with weapons – information requested!

The station forecourt in Barnim is currently the focus of the criminal police, who have been investigating an incident since April 2025. On April 9, 2025, a young man made an unpleasant discovery: an unknown person was targeting his secured mountain bike. The suspected thief fled on his bicycle while the victim and a witness pursued him. The chase ended abruptly when the fugitive pulled out a telescopic baton and used it to escape, leaving the stolen bicycle behind. As a result, an investigation into theft with weapons was initiated. A phantom image of the suspect is now available, but the person being sought, a slim man in his mid-fifties, around 188 cm tall with black-brown hair, has not yet been caught. He only speaks a little German. Information about his identity can be sent to the Barnim Inspectorate on 03338 3610 or via the internet watchdog at polbb.eu/notice be reported.

The issue of crime affects us all. A look at the current situation shows that the criminal police are not only active in Barnim. According to the 2024 police crime statistics, the total number of crimes in Germany fell by 1.7% to 5,837,445 registered cases. The decline was primarily fueled by the partial legalization of cannabis, which led to a significant decline in drug-related crime. Nevertheless, there was a 1.5% increase in violent crime to 217,277 cases - the highest level since 2007. This shows that despite the positive trends in some areas, such as the 34.2% decrease in drug crime, challenges remain.

Coincidences and investigations

In recent days, the police have had to investigate more than just theft. On June 26, 2025, an eleven-year-old girl was slightly injured in a traffic accident on Lindenberger Strasse. A pickup truck hit the girl's bike, causing her to fall. Fortunately, emergency services immediately attended to the child while the criminal police investigate the circumstances of the accident.

There was also a police operation in the Bernau city park on June 25, 2025 after loud shouts, including a Nazi slogan, were reported. There the officers met a 33-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man who were already known for similar crimes. Criminal investigations are now underway against the two. These incidents illustrate how important the work of the criminal investigation department is to ensure public safety.

The role of the criminal police

It is exciting to look at the development of criminal police in Germany. The courts were originally responsible for criminal investigations, but increasing crime in large cities led to the need for specialized law enforcement agencies. The first beginnings of a criminal investigation department date back to 1799, when a commission was founded in Berlin. These early recognition services have changed greatly over the years, particularly with the introduction of new technologies such as photography and fingerprinting in the early 20th century.

In today's world, the criminal investigation department plays a central role and continuously works to increase security in communities. Despite the challenges that the police face, such as increasing violent crime and the increasing number of juvenile suspects, their clearance rate remains constant at around 58%. Anyone who has important information about crimes in Barnim or elsewhere is reminded of the possibility of reporting this to the police.
