Brandenburg an der Havel: E-waste campaign clears 2.2 tons!

These days, the city of Brandenburg an der Havel has sent a strong signal for environmental protection. As part of the campaign weeks "Every plug counts! Germany collects e-waste", citizens had the opportunity to dispose of their old electrical devices in an environmentally friendly manner. This initiative, supported by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Environment Agency, aims to raise awareness of the correct disposal of electrical devices, which often disappear unused in drawers or end up in residual waste.

The collection campaigns took place between October 6th and 19th, 2025 and were aimed at International E-Waste Day. A total of 2.2 tons of e-waste were collected, which will now be sent to the recycling process. The Office for Waste Management paid particular attention to the E-Juniors of SV Empor Brandenburg, who were actively involved in the collection in the Waldkicker project.

Assistance with disposal

Where can the old devices be disposed of? Citizens can hand in their old electrical devices at the municipal recycling center at August-Sonntag-Straße 3. A hotline for picking up electrical appliances is also available to citizens: (03381) 32 37 37. There are also numerous drugstores, hardware stores and electronics stores that take back small electrical appliances with an edge length of up to 25 cm free of charge - even without purchasing a new one.

It is particularly interesting to know that even clothing with built-in technology, such as the popular flashing shoes for children, belongs in electronic waste. Electronic-powered candles, which are often used at gravesites, should also be carefully disposed of as electronic waste after use.

Important information and promoting environmental awareness

In order to further promote awareness of proper waste disposal, the city of Brandenburg an der Havel shares valuable information and tips on its social media channels. This education is more important than ever because the amount of old devices collected is generally too low. It takes a good hand to motivate even more people to donate and thus make a sustainable contribution to environmental protection.

The demand for environmentally friendly disposal and recycling processes is increasing. In addition, e-waste contains valuable raw materials that can be reused through correct recycling. Therefore, it is not only important to know the correct disposal procedure, but also to actively participate in it.
