On November 4, 2025, a new educational milestone will be set in Brandenburg an der Havel. The first TechnoThek in the state of Brandenburg was ceremoniously opened in the children's library at Altstädtischer Markt 8. Among the invited guests were Mayor Steffen Scheller, State Secretary for Culture Tobias Dünow and Professor Burghilde Wieneke-Toutaoui, who gave the event special meaning with their presence.

The TechnoThek, a real treasure for anyone interested in MINT, offers experiment kits with which children and young people can playfully discover scientific and technical connections. For the young researchers it means: touch it, try it out, learn! This initiative is intended to help make the subjects of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology tangible and tangible and is part of the nationwide VDI initiative “TechnoTheken”.

Important support and goals

The exciting project is supported by the Association of German Engineers and the Hertz Foundation. In his speech, Mayor Scheller emphasized how important the library is as a place of knowledge and learning, and emphasized that the TechnoThek significantly expands this educational mission. His statement that education works best when learning is fun was particularly well received.

Professor Wieneke-Toutaoui highlighted the challenges children face when it comes to curiosity and technical understanding, and how important such initiatives can be.

A model for the future

The Fouqué Library acts as a model library for the nationwide construction of additional TechnoTheks throughout Brandenburg, with the Wilhelm Busch Elementary School as the first user. The students are already very excited to explore the creative stations as part of their MINT education.

The newly opened TechnoThek not only represents an exciting expansion of the educational horizons for children, but also brings a breath of fresh air into the promotion of MINT subjects. This innovative approach could potentially take on a pioneering character for other regions of Germany in the near future.
