Havelfest 2026: Looking for a new organizer – who can save the tradition?
In Brandenburg an der Havel, the search for a new organizer for the Havelfest 2026 is being intensively pursued. The previous provider, Hans-Günter Koch with his Showservice Brandenburg, has not yet applied to continue the popular festival after his contract expired. He expressed concerns about rising costs making his life difficult. This situation is now becoming a little more complicated for the city, because the tender for the new organizer is only valid for one year, which does not exactly increase planning security. As the MAZ reports, Koch found that the costs for a new security concept in particular have exploded. He speaks of around 40,000 euros for security alone. The reason for this increase is the increased security measures following the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market.
The city of Brandenburg has contributed 33,000 euros to financing the Havelfest in recent years. Meanwhile, the mayor, Steffen Scheller (CDU), emphasizes the importance of the festival for the city and the tradition associated with it. The decision-making process for awarding the new contract is led by the city's cultural office, which takes various award criteria into account. The application deadline ends on August 15th.
A festival with tradition and action
The 60th Havelfest will be celebrated from June 20th to 22nd, 2025. It is an anniversary that will bring with it many special highlights. Originally launched in 1963, the festival has developed into a cultural and sporting highlight. Special appearances can be expected from pop singer Vanessa Mai, Giovanni Zarella and the cult band The Clogs, among others City of Brandenburg announced.
But the Havelfest doesn't just have something to offer musically. Traditional events such as dragon boat races and the “Talents of Dance” dance festival will also be an integral part of the program. The opening event will take place on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Salzhof, where Mayor Scheller and other officials will give the starting signal. Tickets are available for 25 euros for Stadtwerke customers and 50 euros for other visitors. They are also valid as a VBBr ticket.
Safety is the top priority
The safety of visitors is the top priority at the Havelfest. As was the case last year, a strict set of rules applies: large bags, glass bottles, knives, fireworks and drugs are strictly prohibited. No one turns a blind eye to the controls at the entrances to the festival grounds so that all visitors can celebrate without worry. Mayor Scheller wishes the visitors a lot of fun and good encounters.
The last event in 2023 was already a complete success, with at least 50,000 visitors enjoying the numerous offers and attractions. This gives hope for an equally exciting festival in 2025, even if the future of the Havelfest lies in the hands of new organizers.
