Finally the time has come! Tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. Kaufland is opening a new branch in the Beetzsee Center, directly on Brielower Landstrasse. This is not happening without reason: the opening follows the closure of the Real market in the same center, which should please many residents of Brandenburg an der Havel. With a sales area of around 5,600 square meters, Kaufland offers its customers a huge selection of over 30,000 items of food and everyday necessities that are sure to go well in the cart.
After intensive renovation work, which, according to... Meeting point Brandenburg cost around 11 million euros, Kaufland relies on modern, energy-saving technology. The refrigerated cabinets are closed, the lighting is with energy-saving LED lights and a heat pump ensures pleasant comfort.
A win for the region
The new branch will not only fill the shelves in the Beetzsee Center, but also create around 100 jobs for people from Brandenburg and the surrounding area. This is a real bright spot for the region, which has suffered some economic setbacks in recent years. The collaboration between Kaufland and the city administration was highlighted very positively during the planning and renovation phase, which shows that everyone is pulling in the same direction.
The Beetzsee Center has not only reorganized with Kaufland, but has also re-integrated other stores in recent years. Steinecke bakery, SoGut butcher and a tobacco lottery magazine store are just some of the new business partners who, like Kaufland, are helping to ensure that the center remains a popular destination for shopping and relaxation.
Expansion of Kaufland in Germany
Kaufland is not alone with this opening. The company will continue to expand in 2025 and is planning numerous new openings in Germany. Locations are planned, most of which will be built in former Real and Globus stores. In addition to Brandenburg an der Havel, openings are also planned in Heiligenhaus, Chemnitz and Essen Sauerland courier reported. This year, Kaufland has already opened new branches in cities such as Bedburg, Ingelheim am Rhein and Karlsruhe.
Kaufland currently operates over 780 stores in Germany and employs more than 90,000 people. The company belongs to the Schwarz Group, which also operates Lidl. According to the company's own annual report, the number of Kaufland and Lidl branches worldwide grew by around 200 to around 13,900.
But not everything goes without challenges. The ver.di union has repeatedly pointed out the situation of employees during takeovers. An agreement to secure jobs and pay the Real employees taken over was already reached in 2020, which shows that Kaufland takes responsibility even in difficult times.
The upcoming opening at the Beetzsee Center not only promises a new shopping experience for the region, but also shows that Kaufland is determined to further expand its branch network.
