The love of reading is flourishing in Brandenburg! Since 2019, the Brandenburg libraries have been organizing the “Brandenburg Reading Summer” to promote the joy of reading and enthusiasm for books without the stress of school. This year the popular campaign recorded how stadt-brandenburg.de reported a strong influx. 30 public libraries have already taken part and increased the offering for their youngest readers.
The concept is simple but effective: children and young people aged 8 to 18 can become members of a reading club and read exclusive books. These exciting summer holiday activities start on July 1st every year. The Fouqué library in Brandenburg an der Havel saw a remarkable increase in registrations in 2025 - 297 kids took part, compared to just 168 in 2024. The number of books read also rose from 625 to a total of 1,101!
Ceremonial closing event
A special highlight of this reading summer was the final event in the Roland Hall, which was impressively designed and exceeded the capacity of 300 chairs. Mayor Steffen Scheller emphasized the importance of reading in his speech. The event also offered a colorful program, which was enriched by the “Allstars” young band from the Luckenberger School. There were certificates for the young readers and great prizes such as city vouchers and library backpacks were raffled off.
A special highlight was the reading by Cally Stronk and Christian Friedrich, two authors from the popular children's book series “The Three ???”. The children were not only able to listen, but also actively participate with questions and puzzles. The most diligent among the readers were awarded 3-print trophies: Janick Blach and Moritz Roos each read 9 books, Rafael Grigoriants managed 26 books and Anton Lorek even managed 50! Mayor Steffen Scheller was enthusiastic and expressed his wish to continue the reading summer as a tradition.
New reading pleasure and challenges

In addition to these new stories, the existing collections are also available to participants free of charge. Nationwide, reading promotion is attracting more and more attention, with a variety of initiatives that build bridges to young readers.
