Chess Mile in Cottbus: Excitement, games and big readings on the weekend!
The city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz can look forward to an exciting highlight in the calendar: The 3. Chess Mile will take place on September 12th and 13th, 2025. Under the patronage of Mayor Tobias Schick, the event offers a variety of activities for chess enthusiasts of all ages and levels of experience.
The organizers, the ESV Lok Raw Cottbus and the Seniors Cottbus Chess Club, together with the support of the Cottbus City Management, have put together a colorful program that appeals to young chess players as well as passionate players. On Saturday, September 12th, the adult tournament starts at 9:30 a.m. in the Mittedrin church, while the children's tournament begins half an hour later in the Hugendubel bookstore. Depending on your mood, interested participants could meet at short notice www.ESVLokRAWCottbus.de register.
Cultural highlights and hands-on activities
But that's not all! The “Chess for Everyone” program will be offered throughout the weekend. Those interested can test their skills or simply watch, both in the city center and at the “running chessboard”. On Saturday, Club Humi will also be present at Schillerplatz to promote the chess community and play exciting games.
Another highlight of the Schachmeile are the literary readings, which are also likely to attract great interest. On Saturday, September 12th, Christine Gransalke will read from her chess novel “ON A TIME” at 3:30 p.m. in the Mittendrin church. The following Sunday, Mirjam Jasmin Strube will be on the program with her children's book “Flynn and the Game of Kings” at 3:45 p.m. in the Hugendubel bookstore.
Simultaneously with the FIDE master
There will also be a simultaneous event on Saturday evening with FIDE master Hendrik Reichmann, which starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Mittedrin church. Here participants can test their skills against a real master - an opportunity that no chess fan should miss. Registering for this special event is quick and easy via email schachmeile@gmx.de.
The “Chess for Everyone” format is not only a big deal on these two days, but also takes place regularly every Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the square at the city fountain. This creates a great framework to promote chess as a sport and also as a means of integration.
The 3rd Cottbus Chess Mile promises to be a festival for all chess lovers and those who want to become one. Take the chance and come along - maybe you'll do your own good business on the chessboard!
