20 lighthouses for disaster control in the Dahme-Spreewald district!
In a world where power outages and other emergencies are becoming more and more common, it is crucial for the population to be well prepared. The Dahme-Spreewald district has now taken an important step towards crisis prevention: a total of 20 disaster prevention lighthouses will be set up in 17 cities, offices and communities in the district. These lighthouses are designed to empower civilians in the event of a crisis and serve as central contact points for citizens.
District Administrator Sven Herzberger emphasized the enormous importance of these lighthouses at the presentation in Lübben. Here, citizens in emergency situations can receive information about the current situation, first aid, drinking water and options for preparing food, as well as charging options for communication devices. The lighthouses are not only practical aids, but also “temporary heat islands” that help the community stand together in cold times.
Locations and equipment of the lighthouses
The lighthouses will be placed in several key locations including:
- Lübben: Mehrzweckhalle “Blaues Wunder”
- Bestensee: Landkost-Arena
- Eichwalde: Radeland-Halle
- Königs Wusterhausen: Paul-Dinter-Halle, Rathaus
- Schulzendorf: Mehrzweckhalle Schulzendorf
- Wildau: Volkshaus Wildau
- Zeuthen: Grundschule am Wald
- Heidesee: Turnhalle Grundschule Friedersdorf
- Golßen: Turnhalle Golßen
- Schönwald: Verwaltung Schönwalde
- Heideblick: Grundschule Walddrehna
- Luckau: Oberschule “An der Schanze”
- Märkische Heide: Grundschule Gröditsch
- Mittenwalde: Mehrzweckhalle Mittenwalde
- Lieberose: Turnhalle Lieberose, Verwaltung Straupitz
- Teupitz: mobile Abrollbehälter-Lösung
- Schönefeld: Turnhalle Schönefeld, Mehrzweckhalle Schönefeld
In total, the costs for this important project amount to around 2.6 million euros, financed by funds from the state of Brandenburg. In order to ensure that the lighthouses can work effectively, contractual arrangements for the establishment and use of the lighthouses were made with the municipalities involved. Taking the needs of people with disabilities into account is also a key concern when it comes to equipment.
Importance of civil protection lighthouses
The concept of disaster protection lighthouses, affectionately known as “KatLighthouses”, was developed to offer the population a safe place to go in crisis situations. In the face of a widespread power outage that could significantly disrupt modern lifestyles, these lighthouses play a critical role in emergency preparedness. The district fire chief Christian Liebe also made it clear that the lighthouses offer valuable support, but cannot replace personal precautions. Everyone should take care of themselves and their families.
Additional information on emergency preparedness can be found in the “Disaster Alarm!” brochure. of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief can be read. This contains helpful recommendations and checklists for various emergency situations as well as important tips for personal emergency planning. For example, it is advisable to plan sufficient supplies for at least ten days - with a minimum supply of three days.
The lighthouses not only represent practical help in times of crisis, they are also a social anchor for the community. If they are designed to be citizen-friendly and anchored sustainably, they can make a significant contribution to the security and strengthening of the civilian population. Every member of the community should be actively involved and take advantage of the diverse opportunities that these new facilities offer. Because ultimately it's about our safety and the well-being of everyone.
