Insights into nightlife: This is how the Easyjet hangar at BER comes to life!
On the night of August 17, 2025, there will be a lot of activity in the Easyjet hangar at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). The last flight of the day, an Airbus A319 (OE-LQD), lands on time after a trip from Naples. But while the passengers leave the aircraft, the work of the maintenance teams begins. The pilots and crew say goodbye and the maintenance team, consisting of Jessica Hambsch and Karim Sobrawi, takes over the helm.
Jessica Hambsch, who works as the only woman in the maintenance team at BER, has been part of Easyjet for six years. Her shift work is limited to four nights, followed by four days off, so she makes sure everything runs smoothly at night. The importance of teamwork in this maintenance work quickly becomes apparent: an A-check, which is carried out every 500 flight hours, requires the cooperation of the entire team. The team successfully completed the necessary maintenance work on the A319 in just ten hours.
Insights into the night shift
Jessica performs various maintenance tasks including inspecting the landing gear and elevator mechanics. Her license (Cat A) allows her to do maintenance work independently, but she is also aiming for a Cat B license to expand her opportunities throughout her career at Easyjet. Karim Sobrawi, who is in the third year of his training to become an aircraft mechanic, benefits from the experience he can gain on night shifts.
These training guidelines are supported by Easyjet's cooperation with Trainico in Wildau. The company is still looking for trainees to secure the future of the maintenance team. Jessica enjoys watching the Airbus A319 roll out of the hangar at sunrise after maintenance work - a moment that rewards the hard work of the night operation.
The Easyjet hangar at BER plays a central role in the airline's European route network. The dedicated maintenance team guarantees that flights can be carried out flawlessly and safely. A look behind the scenes shows a team that is highly motivated and accepts challenges in order to maintain aviation standards.
