Book buses are rolling again: New faces and exciting media for Elbe-Elster!

After the summer holidays, the popular book buses in the Elbe-Elster district have resumed their service. And it's not just the many readers in the region who are happy about it! How Niederlausitz-aktuell.de reported, the vehicles were cleaned in the preparation period and all necessary clearance work was carried out. The two book buses are now in use and provide 150 locations in the district with a large selection of media.

The book buses are a reliable partner for media supply and reading promotion in the region, having gained many loyal readers over the years. In 2025, the buses will reach around 10,000 people annually. The loan includes not only books, but also radio plays, Tonie figures and console games. This large selection ensures that there is something for everyone.

Something new in the team

The book bus team has been reinforced with Carmen Friedel. The media designer and theater teacher brings a breath of fresh air and will actively support lending and event work. Particularly exciting: Carmen has a driving license and will be able to drive the book buses herself in the future. The team is complemented by Tanja Becker, who has now started her second year of training as a specialist in media and information services in the library department. Together, the two women support the district media center with media selection and orders.

Particular attention is paid to promoting reading, which is carried out in collaboration with schools, kindergartens and other educational institutions. Regular events and introductions are an integral part of the program. The mobile library also offers educational resources such as media boxes, class sets and educational films for schools to enrich lessons.

Digital offers for everyone

The mobile library in the Elbe-Elster district shines not only with a comprehensive physical offering, but also with digital media. Using the Elbe-Elster-Bibnet, readers have the opportunity to borrow digital books, magazines, audio books, music and videos at any time and location. This service is particularly valuable for people who have difficulty using the service in person due to their mobility limitations.

According to a 2019 survey, there are still 102 active mobile libraries in operation in Germany. In addition to Elbe-Elster, there are also three other mobile libraries in use in Brandenburg, which make an important contribution to media supply in rural areas. These initiatives are particularly aimed at children, young people, parents with small children, senior citizens and refugees, who often have limited access to library services.

The citizens of the district are invited to view the current tour plans online on the district's website www.lkee.de to view. This year the region can look forward to numerous exciting offers from the mobile library - a real benefit for local education and culture!
