Disappointment in Brandenburg: SPD and BSW are slipping, AfD on record!
There is a feeling of disillusionment in Brandenburg. After six months of the coalition between the SPD and the Brandenburg Social Democrats (BSW), the population's satisfaction has fallen to a worrying level. Only 40 percent of citizens can certify that the new government is working, as rbb24 reports. The combination of inadequate education policy and the prioritization of police positions over teachers is causing resentment, which is expressed in numerous protests and petitions.
The dissatisfaction is not limited to the citizens of the BSW: a full 25 percent of party supporters are anything but satisfied with the government's work. The recently published survey results are also sobering: the BSW has achieved a single-digit result for the first time since its founding, while the SPD has lost a lot of support compared to December 2024 and is currently at 23 percent.
AfD as the winner of the situation
The AfD, which actually started as an opposition party, is increasingly becoming a serious political force in Brandenburg. According to current polls, the party would get 32 percent of the vote in state elections. This is a record that the AfD achieved with a high level of acceptance among the people of Brandenburg. In contrast, 54 percent of those surveyed are dissatisfied with the work of the government, which is led by Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD). With a satisfaction rate of 50 percent, he is currently doing worse than ever since he took office in 2013, according to t-online.
The Left Party has also improved and doubled its share of the vote to 9 percent, while the CDU is currently unable to shine with a drop of one percent to 14 percent. The Greens remain stable at 5 percent. Despite this change, a three-party coalition is not possible without the AfD, which further complicates the political situation in Brandenburg.
School education in focus
A central point of criticism of the coalition is the lack of change in educational policy, which the BSW had promised in its election program. This remains largely unfulfilled to this day. The debate has broken out about the right balance between investments in security, i.e. police officers, and the training of future generations, i.e. teachers. The voices of teachers who oppose extra work without appropriate recognition and those of concerned parents who report a decline in the quality of education are in unison.
The results of the state election in Brandenburg in 2024, which took place on September 22nd, are further driving this discussion. Vote shares by level of education show how different voting behavior is among the population, which can be found on [Statista](https://de.statista.com/statistics/data/study/1495512/umfrage/wahl Behavior-landtagswahl-in-brandenburg-nach-bildung/). The dissatisfaction combined with declining support for the governing coalition could have a significant impact on the upcoming political decisions in Brandenburg.
