Havelbus supports trainees: Help with apprenticeship terminations in Havelland!
Fabian Stober is one of many who are making their dream of becoming a bus driver come true. The 20-year-old is in the second year of his training to become a professional driver in passenger transport at Havelbus. His path to this career began at a training fair and open day in Rathenow. Here he discovered the opportunities the industry offers him and began his journey with Havelbus.
Stober is currently getting his bus driver's license and at the same time getting to know the processes in the company's control center, from roster design to the daily challenges that a professional driver has to overcome. “The training is demanding,” he admits, “I had difficulties in the lessons at the beginning.” But thanks to the employment agency’s “Assisted Flexible Training” (AsAflex) funding offer, he received the support he needed. Stober has made important progress with tutoring at SBH Nordost.
Important support for trainees
The AsAflex funding program was launched in 2020 to help young people who are having difficulty achieving their vocational qualifications. Performance problems, such as poor school grades or exam anxiety, are common reasons why trainees need help. Training manager Andreas Plessow from Havelbus praises the discipline and seriousness of Stober and other trainees who benefit from the AsAflex funding. “We have already supported 143 trainees since 2021,” he reports proudly.
The program is proving to be a valuable help for around 50 companies in Havelland. For the years 2024 to 2027, around 560,000 euros are available for tutoring in the district. Andrea Wallstab from SBH Nordost plays a key role in this process by determining the trainees' support needs and tailoring the support. Contact with trainers and vocational schools ensures that the measures are optimally tailored to the needs of the trainees.
Diversity of training occupations
The trained trainees not only come from the transport sector; the breadth of industries is considerable. Occupations include professional drivers, construction mechanics and chimney sweeps. A career path like Fabian Stober's shows how important it is to support young people at an early stage and to prepare them well for the challenges that training brings with it.
