Premnitz starts converting the high school: A new path to a comprehensive school!

An important decision was made for education in Premnitz: the majority of city councilors voted to convert the high school into a comprehensive school. How MAZ Online reports, the new school is scheduled to start in the 2026/2027 school year and could even lead to Abitur exams being taken again in Premnitz in 2033. This decision is seen as an important step for the entire region and as a sign of the positive school development in Premnitz.

One reason for this change is that the conversion is intended to relieve the burden on secondary schools in Rathenow. In the future, students from the neighboring towns of Rhinow and Nennhausen will find places in Rathenow, which is an advantage for the entire school landscape in western Havelland. While four city councilors voted against the conversion, they were unable to sustainably substantiate their concerns.

School development in Havelland

On December 5, 2022, the Havelland district council presented the school development plan, which aims to create sufficient places in secondary schools in western Havelland. From the 2025/26 school year onwards, additional capacity will be created for the acquisition of the general university entrance qualification. The conversion of the high school is a central concern in order to meet demand and implement a change in the type of school by 2026/27 at the latest. This is also done by Premnitz.de supports.

The implementation of these plans should not only be covered by the existing school locations in western Havelland, but also by well-frequented bus connections that take school commuters to their new schools without any problems.

A good reason for the region

The decision to convert is not only important for the city of Premnitz, but is also viewed positively by the educational landscape in Germany as a whole. There is no uniform education system in Germany, and the federal states are responsible for their own education policy. As the Federal Agency for Civic Education notes, this can lead to significant differences in educational institutions.

In the lower secondary level, where the high school is located, students have the opportunity to acquire various qualifications. Integrated comprehensive schools offer additional options, so that choosing a comprehensive school in Premnitz is also a forward-looking answer to the changing educational landscape.

With the upcoming transformation, Premnitz shows that the focus is on education with a good concept and far-sighted planning. The future comprehensive school could set the course for better school education in the region and optimally prepare students for the challenges of the future.
