Raid in Nauen: 400 kilos of drugs seized in secret laboratory!

In Nauen, a town not far from Berlin, investigators have uncovered a drug laboratory that is probably larger than initially assumed. The police have been on site for days to completely search the laboratory, which was discovered on Wednesday. So far, 400 kilograms of illegal amphetamines have been seized, including dangerous chemicals for drug production. The drugs, mainly destined for the Berlin market, could be present in even higher quantities, as the head of operations confirmed. Investigators may need to find additional doses and substances stored in the industrial hall. RBB24 reports.

The drug ranges notably include 3-CMC and 4-CMC, also known as mephedrone. As the police suspect, two men aged 50 and 41 are suspected of dealing in these drugs in a gang. Both are now in custody. In view of the dangers posed by the chemicals, the investigators work closely with civil protection, fire departments and chemists and wear special protective clothing while working in the laboratory.

Increase in drug crime in Germany

The events in Nauen are part of a worrying trend. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), more than 346,000 drug-related offenses were recorded in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 1.8% compared to the previous year. Drug trafficking in particular is booming, with an increase of 6.0% in trafficking crimes. Cocaine offenses have also reached a new record, with an increase of 27.4%. The amount of cocaine seized has doubled, reaching around 43 tonnes in 2023, compared to just 20 tonnes two years earlier. BKA informs.

Cannabis remains the most common drug, although synthetic drugs such as amphetamine and ecstasy are also popular. Last year, authorities seized almost 2,000 kilograms of amphetamine and over 1.1 million ecstasy tablets. There has also been an alarming increase in drug-related deaths, which rose by 11.9% to 2,227 cases. Mixed intoxications in particular have increased, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach to combating drug-related crime.

The developments in Nauen show once again that drug-related crime is a serious problem that the security authorities are increasingly having to deal with. To counteract this, cooperation between national and European security authorities is essential in order to dismantle these criminal structures.
