Important information events on the railway closure: This is how it goes!

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has big plans and will begin on August 1, 2025 with a comprehensive general renovation of the route between Hamburg and Berlin. These comprehensive work will bring the full closure of the route to the end of April 2026, which harbors important information for commuters and travelers in the region. In order to keep those affected up to date, information events will take place in Falkensee, Brieselang and Nauen on July 2 and 3, 2025. These events are a good opportunity to obtain all the necessary information, because here it is explained which replacement buses are available, how the path control systems are designed and what construction work is specific. The participants can obtain information in Falkensee on July 2 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., in Brieselang from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and in Nauen on July 3. from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The DB is aware that there are challenges such construction projects, especially when it comes to traveling. Therefore, replacement traffic is set up in such a way that each passenger is offered a seat. According to [vbb.de] (https://www.vbb.de/unterwegs-im-vbb/baustelle-bei- Regional-und-sbahn/generalanung-2025-hamburg-berlin/), the replacement buses should be able to react more flexibly to the changed demand. Nevertheless, a seat for any passenger cannot always be guaranteed in the Falkensee area. The high traffic volume requires the use of numerous buses to ensure the mobility of travelers during the construction period and to avoid overload.

background and perspective

The measures for general renovation are part of a larger concept for improving the railway infrastructure in Germany. Already in 2015, quality indicators were introduced to the track position in order to keep the railways in a high quality condition. The annual infrastructure state and development report (IZB), about the eba.bund.de shows the progress in Puncto Investment and maintenance activities of the railway infrastructure companies. In this report, DB AG documents the current traffic situation and the measures that are taken to improve railways.

These renovation work is not only necessary to guarantee the safety and quality of the rail connections, but also to cope with the increasing demand for train connections between big cities. The continuous evaluation of the infrastructure and the associated measures is crucial to check the connection between the means used and the quality of the infrastructure. A comprehensive assessment of these measures will take place by June 30, 2024 at the latest, and the results are essential for future planning.

The coming weeks are therefore crucial for all travelers and commuters in the region. Find out in advance to be well prepared for the changes!
