Train cancellations in Brandenburg: Commuters have to prepare for restrictions!

Regional rail traffic in the region around Oberhavel and Ostprignitz-Ruppin will soon be affected by extensive construction work. Retail chains and commuters should prepare for various restrictions that affect almost all important lines.

How Moz.de reported, the affected railway lines are RE2, RE5, RE6, RE85, RB12, RB20, RB32 and RB55. In particular, the RE5 will no longer stop in Berlin-Südkreuz until December 13th. NW transfer points and the short-term absence of some stops make the journey a little adventure for many commuters.

The construction work is necessary to modernize the Dresden railway and to completely renovate the route between Hamburg and Berlin. From November 3rd, the RB55 will run hourly again, which will provide slight relief for travelers. Replacement buses are also used on various routes, such as between Neuruppin and Kremmen and on the RB12 between Zehdenick and Ostkreuz. However, it should be noted that bicycles, wheelchairs and strollers can only be taken on the replacement buses to a limited extent.

Detailed information about the railway lines

Let's take a closer look at the individual lines:

The way into the future

However, the challenges in local public transport go beyond regional construction sites. Loud VDV, an association responsible for local public transport, passenger numbers in public transport are increasing again after declining due to the corona pandemic. 2023 was the year in which around 26 million passengers traveled by bus and train every day - that corresponds to 18 million car journeys! What is particularly exciting is the fact that the mobility transition also makes a significant contribution to saving greenhouse gases and the industry offers a total of over 1.7 million job opportunities.

It remains to be seen how long the construction work will last, but the benefits for the future and sustainable mobility cannot be ignored. Time for a little patience and maybe a detour or two, dear commuters!
