Starting your career: How young people can successfully complete their training!

Nowadays, many young people are faced with the challenge of finding the right training place. A prime example of this is Linus, a 17-year-old from the Oberhavel district who had to reorient himself to become a retail salesman after abandoning his first apprenticeship. As the MAZ reports, Beate Kostka, head of the employment agency in Neuruppin, does not see this demolition as a failure, but as an opportunity. Even though Linus gave up during his probationary period, he remained in contact with career advice, which helped him significantly.

In March 2025, a new opportunity opened up for Linus: entry-level qualification in the field of mechatronics. This initiative by the employment agency not only offered him a long-term internship, but also financial support in the form of internship remuneration and travel allowance. In this program, companies were able to get to know potential trainees. A big advantage, like that Hessian administrative portal confirmed, which also benefits the companies.

Support for trainees

Linus was able to impress thanks to his practical experience from the entry-level qualification and finally began training as an agricultural and construction machinery mechatronics engineer on September 1, 2025. But what happens to all the young people who have difficulties in their education? This is where assisted training (AsA) comes into play. This program not only helps young people to find training places, but also to successfully complete their training.

AsA offers support in various areas of life, be it at vocational school, in overcoming learning difficulties or with problems in the training company. This is done through individual support plans that educational institutions create together with a designated contact person. According to that BMAS Part-time trainees and young people with disabilities can also benefit from these measures. This not only ensures that the trainees receive the necessary support throughout their entire training period, but also makes it easier for companies to successfully accompany their trainees through the training period.

The situation on the training market

In the current situation, it should be mentioned that a significant number of apprenticeship positions remain unfilled in the new training year. There are more training opportunities than young people looking for. This provides a certain amount of relief for young people looking for a suitable apprenticeship. The employment agency has made it its mission to avoid training terminations. In addition to assisted training, they also offer short-term counseling appointments that can be booked through career counseling.

Interested young people and their parents can contact us directly at the telephone numbers Ostprignitz-Ruppin and Prignitz: 03391/695000 and Oberhavel: 03391/694000. Employers also have the opportunity to consult their employer service on 0800/4555520 to find the right support.

The challenges that young people face are diverse and require targeted support. The help from the employment agency, as is evident in Linus' case, shows that there can be a new opportunity even after a setback.
