The countdown is on: District elections in Oberspreewald-Lausitz are approaching!

Good news for all voters in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district! Today, November 6, 2025, the crucial meeting of the district election committee took place in the Senftenberg district office. The most important topic of the meeting was the confirmation of the candidates for the upcoming district election, which will take place on Sunday, January 11, 2026. And there are several exciting candidates running for the highest office in the district.

How osl-online.de reported, all election proposals submitted on time were accepted without any dissenting votes. The admitted candidates are:

  • Alexander Erbert von der CDU, der als Beigeordneter für Gesundheit, Jugend und Soziales tätig ist und in Schwarzheide wohnt.
  • Antje Ruhland-Führer, parteilos, Rechtsanwältin und ebenfalls aus Schwarzheide stammend, die für die AfD antritt.
  • Dr. Evgeni Kivman von der Tierschutzpartei, ein Softwareentwickler aus Lübbenau.

Important information for voters and election workers

The candidates will be published next week in the district's official gazette so that all citizens can obtain comprehensive information. In order to ensure that the election runs smoothly, 100,000 ballot papers were ordered and will be distributed to the municipalities in a timely manner. Postal voting will also start in the next few weeks, and information about this will be provided in good time. Anyone who would like to volunteer as a poll worker is warmly invited to get in touch - around 160 polling stations in the district are still looking for hard-working helpers.

Speaking of election day: The polling stations will be open on January 11, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For anyone who cannot go to the polls in person, postal voting is a convenient alternative. The counting of votes, including postal voting documents, is carried out by the district administration.

Those responsible for the upcoming election are district returning officer Anne Kawetzki and her deputy Michelle Käschel. There are around 90,700 registered voters in the entire district who are allowed to exercise their right to vote. If no clear result is achieved in the first round, there could be a runoff election on January 25, 2026.

Our readers are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming elections and get to know the candidates. The political competition is not only exciting, but also of great importance for the future of our district.
