A look at DEFA

The film “Seven Freckles” is a fine example of the creative work of DEFA (Deutsche Film-Aktiengesellschaft), which was founded in 1946 and is the first film production company in post-war Germany. The Soviets quickly recognized that film was a crucial medium for re-educating the German population after Nazism and gave official approval for film production on May 13, 1946. DEFA has created many unforgettable films over the years and remains a part of East Germany's cultural heritage to this day.

The creative period in the 1960s is particularly interesting, when DEFA set new standards with films such as the popular “Red Western”. DEFA's last great glory ended in 1992 with the official dissolution of the company and the sale of the studios to a French company. At least DEFA's important film history cannot be denied; She wrote German cinema history for a long time.

The event not only offers the opportunity to enjoy a nostalgic film, but also to take a look at the film history that came to life at DEFA.
