District road K6604: Complete closure between Schwarzbach and Biehlen!

Things will soon be going well again in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district! From August 18th to 31st the County road K6604 completely closed between Schwarzbach and Biehlen. The plan here is to extensively renew the top layer, which is intended to improve both safety and driving comfort.

The focus is on the second section of the K6604, which extends from the town of Biehlen to the Biehlen Expansion curve area. In total, over a length of around 700 meters, the old asphalt surface layers are no longer load-bearing and have to be milled away. It is being built with a new asphalt surface, which is also complemented by fresh road markings. This has a good hand for traffic safety and the condition of the road.

Preparation for the renovation work

The measure is being carried out by the district road maintenance department, which ensures that everything runs smoothly. In order not to completely lose sight of the interests of road users, a wide-area diversion will be set up. This will be signposted in good time so that no one gets stuck in traffic. Initial construction work was originally planned for April 2025, but work carried out since then has shown that this more comprehensive renovation is necessary. The first-time asphalt work covered an area from Schwarzbach to the Biehlen curve area.

The preparatory work has shown that the existing asphalt surface not only needs renewed material, but also requires a thorough check of the road's wear resistance and structure. This ensures that the new layer can withstand the demands of modern traffic and that the loads are managed in a future-proof manner.

A little look into the future

Investments in such infrastructure are not just local. As part of the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2030, which is based on around 2,000 project proposals, the region's transport infrastructure will also play an important role. The projects aimed at expanding roads, railways and waterways are in Project information system PRINS documented. This information is essential for future planning and implementation of renovation work and provides a solid basis for assessing the advantages and disadvantages of the measures.

In the coming weeks, drivers can look forward to well-trained traffic guidance that will make it easier for them to pass the closed section. Until then, we need to plan the direction of Schwarzbach-Biehlen better and, if necessary, take detours. Because one thing is certain: There is great anticipation of a fresh, new road.
