Huge election in Brandenburg: Who will be the new mayor?

There is great excitement in Brandenburg an der Havel. On November 9th, 2025 the time has come: the citizens of the city are called upon to elect a new mayor. As the MAZ reported that six candidates are running - three from the established parties and three who are independent. The tension is rising because the decision about the city's leadership is in the balance!

There is a familiar face among the candidates: Steffen Scheller from the CDU, who has been in office since March 2, 2018 and won an impressive 66.6% of the vote in the last election. Born in Köthen in 1969, he brings with him experience from his time as a bank clerk and qualified bank business economist, and in his private life he enjoys fishing and gardening.

The challengers

The SPD relies on Daniel Keip, born in Brandenburg in 1986. The administrative officer at the Potsdam Police Headquarters has a strong academic background in political and administrative sciences and is a passionate rower and cyclist in his free time.

The AfD is fielding Axel Brösicke, who was born in 1976 and looks back on a 30-year career as an industrial mechanic. He describes himself as a martial artist and motorcyclist, while owning 13 hectares of forest and maintaining a clear connection with nature.

The independent candidates bring a breath of fresh air into the race. Birgit Patz, an art and mathematics teacher, has already made a name for herself as a city councilor and is supported by the Left and the Greens. Steffen Tepper and Julia Zureck are largely unknown in the political arena, with Tepper working as a team leader in the city administration's security center, while Zureck works as an entrepreneur and real estate agent.

Election procedure and possible runoff elections

To win in the first round, a candidate needs more than 50% of the vote. If none of the applicants succeed, there will be a runoff election between the first and second place winners on November 23rd, which can be followed live.

The upcoming election is not only crucial for the candidates, but also for the city itself. What visions do they bring with them for Brandenburg an der Havel? All that remains is to wait and see.

And while the focus is on the choice, some people may also be thinking about their own financial situation. If you want to do a good deal with a money market account these days, you should know that banks like Members Choice have special offers, but these are subject to certain requirements. At least $50,000 in new money is required to benefit from the best interest rates - a consideration that cannot be dismissed in these uncertain times!

Overall, the election on November 9, 2025 will not only decide who will lead the city's fortunes, but also what direction politics in Brandenburg an der Havel will take.
