Special exhibition Typical Lausitz: Kunstenblicke for the anniversary!

In the heart of Lusatia, an exciting special exhibition now opens up in the Museum of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district. Under the title "Typical Lausitz", the Lausitz art collection celebrates its 40th anniversary with an impressive show that documents the structural change in the region for four decades. The opening took place on July 15, 2025, and visitors can look forward to around 70 works that load both artistically and historically.

The spokeswoman for the museum, Jenny Linke, explained that the exhibition includes drawings, graphics and sculptures, including a very special sculpture made of open wood. The outstanding exhibits include Michael Kruscha's work “Lost Places” from 2013, which urges coal mines and village buildings. But Harald Metzkes's lively "summer garden festival" from 1999, which represents dancing people, also attracts attention.

Typical Lausitz: A look into the past

"" typical Lausitz "is not only a retrospective consideration, but also brings a breath of fresh air to the permanent exhibition of the art collection, which is located in the Senftenberg Castle. The exhibition runs until October 5, 2025 and shows works by artists who were born in the region or lived there. In the Lausitz art collection, a total of over 2,500 works of around 200 artists are united, which underlines the diversity and creativity of Lausitz and makes a place of lively art.

The art collection has changed tremendously in recent years through numerous purchases and donations from artists and their estates and is growing continuously. From 2010 to 2022 the collection was expanded to include significant works and now also includes newer artists such as Theo Boettger and Michael Horwath, who always have an eye on the region - a central requirement for all work shown.

The collection not only offers works of established artists such as Carl Lohse and Elisabeth Wolf, but also attaches great importance to the presentation of contemporary art. The changing exhibitions are devoted to the artistic examination of everyday life and life in Lusatia and show that this region has more than just history. In addition, there are special educational offers that are aimed at families, young people and seniors, and thus make the museum a place of exchange and learning.

Visitors who want to reach the museum in Senftenberg will find parking in the old town and at the city harbor. Even if the train station is approx. 1,300 meters away, the way to the Museum for those interested in art and culture is a worthwhile excursion.
