Violent storm over Berlin: One dead, injured people and chaos!

The weather report for June 26, 2025 shows a violent storm in Berlin and Brandenburg, which is already threatening this afternoon. Loud Daily Mirror Strong thunderstorms and hurricane-like gusts with speeds of up to 110 km/h could hit the region around 5:30 p.m. The warnings from the German Weather Service (DWD) begin at 4:30 p.m. for the south of Brandenburg and cover a variety of possible weather phenomena, including heavy rain and hail.

Caution is advised in the affected districts - which include Elbe-Elster, Teltow-Fläming, Dahme-Spreewald, Oder-Spree and Spree-Neiße. The cities of Frankfurt/Oder and Cottbus are also affected. In the west of Brandenburg the storms will be active from 5 p.m., especially in Potsdam and Havelland. The meteorologists had already warned of possible storms in Berlin that morning.

How hard the storms can hit

The dangers posed by gusts should not be underestimated. Branches could break and trees fall, as tragically happened in Berlin on Monday when a tree fell on a car, killing a 55-year-old woman. In the city, S-Bahn traffic was suspended for hours, and regional and long-distance trains were not unaffected by the effects of the storm, which reached a top speed of 108 km/h at the Free University of Berlin.

The DWD continues to warn of the high wind speeds. The strongest gusts were measured in Tempelhof, where they also reached over 100 km/h. Despite the dramatic weather conditions, a cooling down to between 16 and 19 degrees is forecast overnight, although the wind will remain moderate to weak.

The coming days – between thunderstorms and sun

For the rest of the weekend, the weather forecast shows a positive turnaround: According to the DWD, temperatures will start on Friday at a maximum of 24 degrees, and at the weekend the meteorologists are expecting average highs of between 26 and 30 degrees, which could make the weather a summery experience for many, even if there could still be a few clouds.

Meteorologists explain such a change in the weather by the current conditions in the troposphere, where weather-determining processes take place. The weather is not just a fleeting moment, but an interplay of many physical and chemical phenomena that have an impact on people and the environment, such as ARD Alpha explained.

The coming period will certainly be demanding for many people, both due to the intense storms and the sudden change to summer. So stay careful and informed, because the weather in Berlin and Brandenburg can be unpleasant!
