Rebecca Reusch is still missing more than six years after her disappearance. On February 18, 2019, the student disappeared without a trace in the Britz district of Berlin. There may have been progress in the last few days: The investigators are hoping for traces that were secured during the current search operations. Some evidence suggests that Rebecca's brother-in-law, who is now 33 years old, may be involved in the crime and may have killed the teenager. He is considered the main suspect but denies all allegations.

Amateur investigators and their role

An amateur detective who calls himself “23” has put together a team to conduct his own investigation. He is convinced that he is getting closer to the police in the investigation, precisely because he has spoken to possible witnesses and his brother-in-law's mother. His activities and his opinion on the official investigation have now caused a stir. The public prosecutor's office also emphasized that hobby detectives can hinder the official investigation if they do not proceed carefully.

Security in the area at the search locations remains an issue. While the use of amateur investigators offends some, others are grateful for every new clue that could help find the truth. It remains to be seen whether the new actions will actually lead to a breakthrough.
