Colorful hustle and bustle at the start of the carnival: fools conquer the cities!

On November 11th, 2025 at 11:11 a.m. the time has finally come: the fifth season begins in Fehrbellin, Rheinsberg and Neuruppin! A colorful carnival awaits the fools, who will celebrate the tradition of storming the town hall in high spirits. This custom, which dates back to the Middle Ages, symbolizes the rise to power of fools and ensures joyful civic celebrations in the cities.

The Fehrbelliner Carnival Club (nudist) has for November 11th. prepared an impressive program with the motto “Circus”. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and participation is only possible for members. But don't worry: spectators are warmly invited to experience the spectacle up close. Following the parade, the town hall will be stormed, with the prince couple Franz Kühn and Janina Loske taking over the role of fools.

150 years of Rheinsberg Carnival

The Rheinsberg Carnival Club (RCC) has a double reason to celebrate this year: 150 years of the volunteer fire department! The motto “At the fire dance in the syringe house” is a glowing symbol of tradition. Here, too, the storming of the town hall is celebrated at 11:11 a.m. and the mayor ceremoniously hands over the golden key. If you want to celebrate even more, you should register for November 15th at 7:19 p.m. in the Seehalle of the Hotel Fürst Donnersmarck. Then the new prince couple will be chosen, who will boast the motto for the celebrations of 300 years of Prince Henry of Prussia: “The Prussians don’t shoot that fast”.

Neuruppin starts with glitter and glamour

But that's not all! The Neuruppin Carnival Club (NCC) is also going on a big journey. With the prince couple Antonia the First and Andrew the First, the parade takes place from the clubhouse to the town hall and finally to the lake, where a special performance takes place at the Mark Brandenburg resort. The motto is kept secret until the speech at the town hall, which increases the excitement and anticipation even more. A gala evening on February 14th and another parade on February 15th, 2026 are also planned - you're sure to see lots of colorful costumes and happy faces here!

Not much has changed at Carnival over time: decorations in the form of magnificent costumes and parties are the focus. With regional terms such as Fasching or Fastnacht, it is clear that Carnival is one of the Germans' favorite times. People are celebrating wildly all over Germany, including the strongholds in the Rhineland. The big climax often takes place in the days before Ash Wednesday. In many cities, from Cologne to Mainz to Frankfurt, there are big celebrations, and chocolate-filled donuts are definitely part of it! The Frankfurt edit reports on the diverse traditions and regional differences in carnival, on the customs that make each region unique.

Finally, we must not forget that Carnival, with its colorful diversity, is not only celebrated before Lent, but also serves as a time for socializing and togetherness. While carnival events in southwest Germany are full of peculiarities such as women cutting men's ties, it is also a real joy to see how carnival is perceived in other parts of the world. Whether in Rio, Venice or New Orleans, tradition and joy meet in their own unique way everywhere. Wikipedia complements the picture of the festive mood and the deeply rooted customs from days long gone.
