Spooky festivals and exciting concerts: Halloween weekend in OPR!

The big Halloween weekend is just around the corner! In Ostprignitz-Ruppin there is a lot of celebration from October 30th to November 2nd. The region has put together an exciting and varied program that has something to offer for both young and old.

It starts on Thursday, October 30th, with a series of events in various locations. In Drewen, an autumn fire will be lit in the fire station from 6 p.m. and there will be the opportunity to carve pumpkins. Fehrbellin invites you to an autumn bonfire with a snack at the sports field. There is a spooky Halloween party with a torchlight parade in Karwesee Park, while similar fun is on offer at the athletes' home in Lindow. The film screening “Venus in Fur” in the Lögow village cinema is also on the program from 6 p.m., and there is a Halloween party for children in Wildberg from 4 to 7 p.m.

Halloween: traditions and customs

For many, Halloween, also known as Hallowe’en or All Hallows’ Eve, is a highlight in the calendar. It is celebrated annually on October 31, one day before All Saints' Day. It originally has its roots in ancient harvest festivals, such as the Celtic Samhain, and was brought to America by Irish and Scottish immigrants, where the traditions became popular in the 19th century. What many people don't know is that modern celebrations are often far removed from the original customs. The modern Halloween celebration, for example, points to customs such as costumes, trick-or-treating and making jack-o'-lanterns, which now often use pumpkins instead of the original turnips. These were once a tool to scare away evil spirits and are now often part of a more colorful spooky creation.

What is certain is that the preparations for the big celebration are doing good business. A staggering $12.2 billion will be spent on Halloween decorations, costumes and candy in the U.S. this year. In this country too, enthusiasm for the witching hour is growing, and the events in Ostprignitz-Ruppin are a sign of the increasingly established cultural fun.

The other celebrations on the weekend

On Friday, October 31st, things continue with a number of celebrations. For example in Barsikow and Freyenstein, where Halloween and autumn festivals are celebrated from 6 p.m. Many highlights await visitors in Neuruppin, including a bell ringing in Hangar 312 with a Halloween reading from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and a free concert with Billy Crize from 8:30 p.m. For the younger ghosts there is also a spooky hour at 3pm in Kyritz, while Rheinsberg keeps the children entertained with an evening tour of the castle from 5pm to 6pm.

On Saturday the celebration will be even more colorful. From a motocross training day in Dreetz in the morning, to several great Halloween parties and concerts in various locations, everything is included. The people of Neuruppin attract visitors with a Martini market and an ultimate P30 cult party.

The grand finale awaits us on Sunday, November 2nd, at the Martinimarkt in Neuruppin, where there is once again a lot to discover between chamber concerts and other events.

It remains exciting to see what the witching hour has in store and the anticipation increases. Last but not least: get ready for spooky costumes and all sorts of sweets - because Halloween is always a reason to celebrate!
