Fighting dog Tyson abandoned in fog on the highway - the search is on!
A shocking incident occurred last Saturday evening in a parking lot on the A24 motorway. A dog owner abandoned an American Staffordshire Terrier and left him behind in thick fog. The witness who discovered the dog near Fretzdorf near Herzsprung immediately alerted the police. The faithful companion was tied to a tree and appeared scared and lonely. Fortunately, the dog was well-fed and healthy, as a dog specialist from Wittstock discovered after the police brought him in for an examination. The male dog, whose name Tyson and an animal number could be read via the microchip, was taken to an animal boarding facility.
American Staffordshire Terriers are one of the so-called “fighting dogs” in Germany. This breed of dog usually weighs around 30 kilograms and reaches a height of around 48 centimeters. According to the Baden-Württemberg.de, in addition to the American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terriers and Pit Bull Terriers are also considered fighting dogs. Owners of such animals must meet special requirements in order to refute the status of fighting dogs.
Important regulations for fighting dog owners
In order to obtain permission to keep a fighting dog, dog owners must meet several requirements. This includes proof of a legitimate interest and proof that the dog does not pose any danger. The regulation also requires that fighting dogs be kept on a leash and muzzled during public appearances if they are older than six months. These measures are intended to help ensure safety in public spaces. In addition, fighting dogs are not allowed to be bred or crossed in Germany, and owners must always provide proof of liability insurance. Violations of the regulation can result in fines of up to 25,565 euros.
Police are currently searching for Tyson's original owner and want to clarify the circumstances under which the dog was abandoned. Such incidents are not only cruel to the animals, but also shine a spotlight on the responsible ownership of dogs, especially breeds that are considered potentially dangerous.
The attentive witness prevented anything worse from happening by acting quickly and ensured that the dog was safe. Tyson's story reminds us of the importance of being helpful and protecting animals who have no voice. So let's continue to be vigilant and work together for better animal husbandry.
