Pride Walk in Neuruppin: 120 participants defy the rain with joy!

The Pride Walk took place in Neuruppin on July 12, 2025, a highlight at the end of this year's Pride Weeks, which ran from June 30 to July 12 under the motto “Promoting tolerance and diversity!” took place. Despite miserable weather and persistent rain, around 120 participants came to the Youth Leisure Center (JFZ) to celebrate their pride and their community. Marleen Vock from the Queer Network impressively emphasized that democracy does not have a fair-weather break. The walk officially began at around 6:15 p.m. and was led by a van from the Buntes Kleeblatt action group from Kyritz, escorted by police cars.

The route of the Pride Walk led through the city center, along Fehrbelliner Straße, Karl-Marx-Straße, August-Bebel-Straße and Virchowstraße, before the participants finally returned to the JFZ. Celebrations with dancing and award ceremonies awaited the participants there. Among others, Alexandra Wolf from Alt Ruppin and the ASB retirement home in Neuruppin were honored for their careful and proud decoration in the Pride style.

Diverse events during Pride Week

Pride Weeks offered a diverse range of events to both celebrate and address the issue of diversity. At the beginning of July, a pub quiz with the drag queen UFF took place in the Irish Pub Neuruppin. Another highlight was the outdoor service in the rose garden, which brought the community together. In addition, reading days were held in kindergartens, while the city held a “Show Color!” decoration competition. provided another colorful face.

There were also various events such as a queer bowling tournament and a dance evening especially for the young at heart. On the evening of the Pride Walk, the closing ceremony in the JFZ was accompanied by the Berlin DJ sherryaeri. The Youth Art School also held a creative art event dedicated to the pride and creativity of the queer community.

Acceptance of LGBTQIA+ in Germany

The developments in Neuruppin reflect a remarkable trend: In Germany, acceptance of LGBTQIA+ people has increased in recent years. According to a survey, 73% of Germans support protection from discrimination for lesbian, gay and bisexual people, while 70% also support protection for trans* people. This positive development is also reflected in support for legal marriage and equal adoption rights. However, internationally, support for LGBTQIA+ people has declined, making the need for events like Pride Week all the more clear.

With a wide range of events and a strong sense of community, Neuruppin sets an example for tolerance and diversity in society. The success of Pride Week, despite the adverse weather conditions, shows how important it is to come together and support each other in diversity.

The detailed programs of Pride Weeks are usually published in early May and provide a great platform to continue to promote the visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community in the coming years.
