There is great joy in the small village of Stücken, because the volunteer fire department can proudly announce that it has secured the title of Brandenburg state champion in the wet firefighting attack. On a sunny Saturday in Doberlug-Kirchhain, 39 men's teams competed and had to assert themselves against a strong field of participants. With a lightning-fast winning time of 20.90 seconds, the team impressively demonstrated their skills and at the same time set a record for this competition, as they were the first team to complete the competition track in under 21 seconds. The members of the team are not just firefighters - most of them work as bricklayers, warehouse workers or car mechanics. With an average age of 17 to 53, they bring a colorful mix of experience and talent to the team. Team leader Sören Kieburg, himself part of the competition team, was happy about the triumphant moment, which is even more important after intensive months of training and a few setbacks in the 2025 season.

A celebration for the village

The reception back in pieces was a festive event: on the village street, surrounded by cheering fans, the firefighters were welcomed with drinks and colorful fireworks. The entire village community felt the pride and joy of this success, which united not only the team but the entire village. When asked how often the Stücken fire department has taken part in competitions in recent years, the team can proudly say: It has already taken part in championships eight times since 2009. The first place this year and the successes of the youth teams contribute to the impressive trophy collection of between 500 and 1,000 awards. The year 2025 in particular has been marked by many mishaps and disappointing returns from the German Championships, but the latest success has inspired the team immensely.

A look forward

There are more competitions coming up. The next big event is the 4-lane cup in Märkisch-Oderland, and preparations are already in full swing. There is also a very special event planned for next year: the 100th anniversary of the Stücken Volunteer Fire Department. This is celebrated with the opening of the new fire station and provides an opportunity to look back on the many years of commitment and togetherness.

The role of the fire brigade in Germany is not just limited to competitions. The service involves numerous tasks, including rescue, firefighting, recovery and protection. At the end of 2022, there were around 48,100 fire departments in Germany, of which volunteer fire departments made up the majority. This commitment was also appreciated by the approximately 114,000 active members of the voluntary armed forces.
