Specialist day at Seddiner See: International know-how to combat the shortage of skilled workers!
Demographic change, a shortage of skilled workers and the integration of migrants are hotly debated topics that also affect the districts in Brandenburg, including Potsdam-Mittelmark. Right now, on July 2, 2025, important events are on the agenda to develop solutions. A highlight is the specialist day “Work & Training PM – Skilled and Workforce International”, which will take place on July 17th from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the adult education center at Seddiner See. The event is organized by the School & Economic Forum PM Network, TGZ PM GmbH and other actors.
The target groups here are employers, educational institutions as well as municipal and integration actors. The aim of the specialist day is to consider international skilled workers as the key to the economic development of rural areas. The program has exciting ideas in store: among other things, Dr. Christoph Löwer, district councilor, welcomed, followed by short lectures from, among others, Melanie Schreiber on recruiting skilled workers and Pervin Sucuoglu on integration challenges.
Integration of international specialists
One of the highlights of the specialist day is a practical example from regiobus Potsdam Mittelmark GmbH, presented by Ms. Druse. This shows how the integration of international employees can be successful. Issam Kanjo will also speak about the role of local networks. In an open discussion group, participants have the opportunity to exchange experiences and identify needs for support. The event is rounded off by a “Marketplace of Opportunities” where experts provide information about integration, training and recruiting skilled workers.
The importance of such events is underlined by the current figures from the skilled workers monitoring of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS). This analysis predicts that numerous professional groups will be affected by skills shortages by 2028. Immigration of skilled workers is a decisive factor. According to that BMAS The employment rate of people with non-German citizenship will be increased in order to cover demand.
Skilled workers and immigration
As early as June 2023, the Bundestag passed measures to address the shortage of skilled workers in Germany. The forecasts speak of 767,000 vacancies. In order to counteract this gap, the federal government is planning to bring highly qualified academics as well as skilled trades and nursing professionals into the country. Deutschlandfunk points out that special licenses and the abolition of the priority test for German employees are intended to improve the application situation for international skilled workers.
Another aspect is the increasing age structure of the population; many baby boomers are retiring. Forecasts show that a skills gap of 240,000 people could arise by 2026. A clear appeal to all stakeholders to work together to find solutions in order to make optimal use of the skilled workers potential.
The specialist day at Seddiner See offers an excellent platform for exchange and networking. Registration is possible free of charge until July 7, 2025 and should be taken up by everyone interested.
