Construction site chaos at the Leipzig triangle: traffic jam alarm from Wednesday!

The construction phase at the Leipzig Triangle in Potsdam will begin on Wednesday, August 17, 2025. These renovations on one of the city's main arteries bring with them some changes that will particularly affect motorists. Traffic routing at the Central Station intersection is undergoing major changes, and the city is warning of potential traffic jams in all directions. The current plans stipulate that all lanes will be available again so that drivers can turn both right and left from Brauhausberg after the renovation.

To ensure a smooth restructuring of the construction site, the traffic lights will be switched off on Wednesday and Thursday. Heinrich-Mann-Allee will be temporarily closed in the direction of the city center between Friedhofsgasse and Brauhausberg. A diversion via Friedhofsgasse and Friedrich-Engels-Straße has been set up. However, those traveling out of town can turn into Leipziger Straße, Heinrich-Mann-Allee and Brauhausberg.

Provisional traffic regulations

For the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, temporary footpaths and cycle paths will be installed along the construction site. During this time, road users must be prepared for the fact that turning onto Friedrich-Engels-Straße is not possible from any direction. Only turning left and right from Leipziger Straße is permitted. From the Long Bridge, drivers are allowed to turn onto Heinrich-Mann-Allee or turn right onto Leipziger Straße. There is also a lane on Friedrich-Engels-Straße that leads to the right to the Lange Brücke, while another lane leads straight ahead or to the left towards Leipziger Straße and Heinrich-Mann-Allee.

The construction work on the Leipzig Triangle is part of a comprehensive renovation that has been underway since 2019. The construction site is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. In addition, a connecting construction site is planned on Michendorfer Chaussee between Brauhausberg and Templiner Straße. This refers to the renewal of the roadway and the sewer system, but not to a reconstruction of the Leipzig triangle itself.

Green areas and raised beds

A long-term goal of these measures is to create more green spaces and raised beds at the intersection. This is not only intended to improve the aesthetics of the surrounding area, but also to contribute to a more environmentally friendly traffic area. Many Potsdam residents hope that the new regulations and the completion of the construction site will contribute to safe and attractive traffic management.
