Inclusive Wins: Tessa Lange inspires at the sports festival in Chemnitz!
There's a lot going on in Chemnitz, because on August 17th the sports forum will become the stage for a very special event: the multi-sport event “Inklusiv Wint”. Under the patronage of Katarina Witt, who has spent much of her life here, the event promises exciting competitions in various sports, including 3×3 basketball, breaking, soccer and track and field. According to the information from SC Potsdam SC Potsdam will also be there.
One of the main actors will be Tessa Lange, the reigning German deaf athletics champion in the 100 and 200 meters and in the long jump. Lange originally planned to take part in the German Deaf Championships in Potsdam, but they are taking place in Düsseldorf at the same time. The talented athlete has therefore agreed to compete in Chemnitz and will compete in the 100 meter, relay and long jump disciplines.
Press conference and opening
In advance of the event, a press conference took place in the town hall on August 12th, at which Mayor Sven Schulze and Roger Rabenhold, head of the Chemnitz Sports Office, were present. Torsten Püschel, sports director of “Inklusiv Wint”, presented the event, which is taking place in Chemnitz for the first time. A highlight will be the opening of the “Walk of Fame of Sport” at the Marathon Tower, which will also be celebrated on August 17th as part of the festival. This project is part of the preparations for the European Capital of Culture 2025 and is accompanied by prominent athletes, like the city of Chemnitz on its website reported.
The sports festival is organized by the Wir.Bewegen.Sport association. e. V. organizes and receives support from patron Katarina Witt and Hagen Boßdorf. Around the sporting competitions, a family festival will also take place in the sports forum, which is intended to appeal to both young and old visitors.
Inclusion in sport
The event goes hand in hand with the topic of inclusion in sport, which is becoming increasingly important worldwide. The founding of the Special Olympics, which was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968, also plays a pioneering role. Their goal is to give people with intellectual disabilities more recognition and a fulfilling life through sport. As part of the Special Olympics, competitions take place every two years in which athletes from different performance categories can compete against each other in a fair setting, without the pressure of national competition. This philosophy is also a central component of events such as “Inklusiv Wint”, as on Deutschland.de is explained.
The event in Chemnitz will help raise awareness of inclusive sports activities and give athletes like Tessa Lange the platform to demonstrate their skills. A permanent place in the heart of Chemnitz is guaranteed - for the athletes as well as for the fans and the community.
