Mercedes at the Humboldtring victim of arson - police investigated!

In the night of Saturday, July 19, 2025, the fire brigade in Erkrath moved to a fire in which several vehicles were affected. A Mercedes C-Class burned out completely, while a Seat Leon and a BMW Mini were significantly damaged by the flames and the heat. The fire was discovered around 1:30 a.m. after attentive witnesses alerted the emergency services. The extinguishing campaign went quickly and successfully, but the police have already initiated an investigation due to possible arson. The estimated property damage amounts to around 30,000 euros and witnesses are asked to report information on 02104 9480-6450, reports the Express .

But the fires in the region do not stop. Just a day later, on Friday evening, the police noticed smoke in a parking garage at Humboldtring in Cologne at around 8 p.m., such as the Tagesspiegel reported. Our emergency services found a Mercedes there that was already on fire and could not be saved. An adjacent vehicle was also damaged by the considerable heat. The criminal police have started the investigation because there is also suspicion of arson.

an alarming trend

The current incidents do not tear the discussion about the increasing number of arson on vehicles. In 2024, a maximum of 422 investigations into vehicle fires was recorded in Berlin. It is often about vandalism, personal motifs or even insurance fraud. Fortunately, extremist motivations were rather rare, as from a report by rbb24

such arsons are not only a problem in the capital, but also affect Cologne and the surrounding area. The police are working intensively to identify and account for those responsible, but in many cases the educational rate remains low. As citizens, we are challenged to be attentive and support the authorities in order to stop this worrying trend.
