Potsdam is looking for the best inclusion projects – apply now!

A positive trend is emerging in Germany: the recognition and promotion of inclusion in all areas of society. Potsdam is setting a good example and launched the call for applications for the 2025 Inclusion Prize today, September 8, 2025. This is being awarded for the second time and has the motto: “Today awarded – tomorrow of course!” The city would like to celebrate the commitment to equal participation of people with disabilities and is looking for creative projects that break down barriers and contribute to inclusive coexistence.

Tina Denninger, the representative for people with disabilities in Potsdam, is responsible for the initiative. She emphasizes how important it is to support people who are actively breaking down barriers in our society. Applications are now possible and invited participants include individuals, clubs, schools, daycare centers as well as organizations and companies. There are many exciting areas from which the projects can come: from education to sport to mobility.

Application details and important deadlines

The application deadline is October 12, 2025. Interested parties can submit their projects by email or post. An independent jury made up of representatives from the town hall, the advisory board for people with disabilities and inclusive institutions will evaluate the ideas submitted. The patron of the award is the well-known Paralympic swimmer Verena Schott. A celebratory award ceremony is scheduled for November 29, 2025 at 1 p.m. in the Potsdam Museum, where the University of Potsdam's Inclusion Prize will also be awarded at the same time.

It is already clear that inclusion initiatives have a high priority in society. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities emphasizes that the full participation of all people in activities is necessary to create a society in which people with and without disabilities can live together. This is seen as important in order to enable inclusive coexistence for all and to enrich society through different perspectives.

Commitment in Brandenburg

But Potsdam is not the only one active in this regard. Inclusion is also a priority at the national level. The Brandenburg Inclusion Prize is aimed at communities, cities and associations and aims to honor creative local initiatives. The application deadline for this award ends on May 13, 2025, while the award ceremony will take place on July 22, 2025 in Potsdam. The best initiatives will be awarded prizes of 5,000, 3,000 and 2,000 euros. Social Minister Britta Müller emphasizes the importance of the participation of people with disabilities in all areas of life.

In this way, engagement in the region accelerates the change towards a more inclusive society. Concrete steps are being taken to advance the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which aims to promote the participation of people with disabilities. Numerous municipalities in Brandenburg have already developed action plans for implementation, showing that inclusion can not just be a buzzword, but a lived reality.

For anyone who is interested in these important topics and wants to actively participate in shaping an inclusive society, applications for the Inclusion Prize in Potsdam are an excellent opportunity to contribute their ideas and projects. Further information and application forms can be easily found on the City of Potsdam website.
