SC Potsdam dares to make the leap into the Bundesliga – all eyes on promotion!
SC Potsdam is facing an exciting adventure in the 1st Floorball Bundesliga. After a successful promotion to the top German league, staying in the league will be the primary goal for the coming season. Expectations within the team are already high, and coach Atte Ronkanen has the ambition to optimally prepare his players for the challenges.
The 33-year-old Ronkanen, an experienced floorball player with 131 first division games and 293 scorer points, expects several hundred spectators per game in the new MBS Arena in Potsdam, where the first home game will take place on September 13th against the Igels Dresden. This new home is a big leap for the team, which previously played in smaller venues. Preparations are already in full swing and a preparatory tournament in Bratislava is also scheduled before the season begins in September.
The coaching team and its goals
Ronkanen has gathered an experienced coaching team around him, which consists of a video coach, a mental and an athletic trainer. The position of assistant coach is still to be filled. The coach himself has great ambitions and wants to avoid relegation with the team. This also includes the performances of players like Anton Sehorcz, who has been playing in the team since 2018 and was one of the top scorers in the promotion season. Sehorcz plans to score at least once per game to contribute to the team.
However, the competition is tough, as teams like UHC Weißenfels are considered top favorites for the championship. The 17-time German champion represents a real challenge for SC Potsdam. But the team is optimistic and well prepared to overcome this hurdle.
Atte Ronkanen as national coach
Ronkanen is not only active at SC Potsdam. Since June 1, 2023, he has also been the national coach of the women's national floorball team. He will be on the sidelines for the first time at the upcoming international matches in Potsdam, where the national team will face Denmark three times - an opponent that is ahead of Germany in the international rankings. The anticipation for the home games is great, and entry to the games on Saturday is even free, which gives many fans the opportunity to watch the games live.
This is an opportunity, especially for young talents like Lara Schubert, to present themselves. Schubert, who was recently drafted by a Finnish professional team, will play in the national jersey on Friday and Saturday and with the SC Potsdam team on Sunday. Ronkanen highlights her abilities as a young leader who has the potential to provide crucial support to the team.
With all of these developments and challenges, it is clear that SC Potsdam and its coaching team are eager to gain a foothold in German floorball and make a splash. The coming months promise both excitement and a significant increase in fans and media attention, which has fortunately increased due to promotion to the Bundesliga. This could be a great season for SC Potsdam!
