Tessa Lange: Chasing the title at the German Deaf Championships!

From Friday, June 26, 2025, the German Deaf Athletics Championships will take place in Düsseldorf. Among the athletes is the talented Tessa Lange from SC Potsdam, who is raising expectations with her numerous titles and medals. Lange, who has already shone as a four-time deaf European champion in Stettin 2023 and a three-time World Cup medalist in Taipei last year, is going into the competitions with a lot of motivation. She will compete in the 100 meters and long jump on Friday, while the 200 meter event is on the agenda on Saturday. SC Potsdam reports this, among other things, that Tessa wants to further expand the number of her successes at these championships - there is something to be said!

Tessa Lange has already shown impressive performances throughout her career. At the German Deaf Indoor Championships in February 2023, she triumphed in the 60 meters and long jump, and also secured a silver medal in the 200 meters. At the beginning of June 2023, she even set a new German record with the German Deaf Sports Association relay team. In May 2023, she demonstrated her speed when she ran a time of 12.20 seconds in the 100 meters in Siegburg, which was the second fastest time of her career. During her competitions, Lange always remains focused and ambitious, which not only earns her respect but also numerous fans.

Successes and challenges

Tessa proved her class at the Junior World Championships, which took place before the actual World Championships. Despite challenging weather conditions with temperatures between 35° and 39°C and humidity over 80%, she impressively qualified for the 100 meter final and won the gold medal with a time of 12.62 seconds. Her teammate Jelisa Gräf took 4th place with a personal best time of 13.04 seconds and also performed excellently in the 200 meter run, although like Tessa she was disqualified in the semifinals of the 100 meter run.

German deaf athletics has developed greatly in recent years, as demonstrated by the athletes' successes in international competitions. A total of many medals were won for the German delegation at the championships. For example, Alexander Kleiner-Bley took 2nd place in the 1500 meter run and Hannah Peters took 6th place in the shot put. Delia Gaede, who also secured bronze in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.59 seconds, said: “It’s great to be part of such a successful team!” This underlines the strong team feeling that exists among the athletes - something that the German Deaf Sports Association attaches great importance to.

All eyes on Düsseldorf

Looking ahead to the German Championships in Düsseldorf, Tessa Lange is expected to give everything again to expand her medal collection. Her focus is not only on the individual disciplines, but also on the team spirit that she shows with her colleagues. She is part of the 4x100 meter relay team that has already won silver and broke an old German record that had stood for over 29 years. Thanks to the good teamwork, an atmosphere full of incentive and motivation is created, which ultimately takes the pressure off the individuals.

The German Deaf Sports Association emphasizes how important such championships are to promote the visibility of deaf sports and to offer young talents the stage they deserve. We are excited to see how Tessa Lange and the other athletes will perform in these emotional and grueling competitions and wish them much success in the pursuit of their titles!
